Viktoria Bubalo (1997) is a professional dancer and choreographer who currently lives and works in Zagreb. After finishing School of contemporary dance Ana Maletić, she enrolled in the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, where she finished the Performance Strand at the Contemporary Dance Department (2020). As a performer, she worked on various dance and theatre projects, collaborating with numerous choreographers and directors such as Sonja Pregrad, Matej Kejžar, Simone Aughterlony, Saša Božić, Irma Omerzo, Petra Hrašćanec, Zrinka Šimičić, Ana Kreitmeyer. She is the winner of the Award of the Professional Association of Contemporary Dance of the Republic of Croatia in the category Most Promising Dance Artist for the season 2019/2020.
At the end of 2021, she started a collaboration with Anna Javoran, with whom she has developed the performance Fear of Small Differences (2022), investigating the issue of identity adaptation during migration. Colleagues recognized their work by rewarding them with the Award of the Professional Association of Contemporary Dance of the Republic of Croatia in two categories: Best Choreography and Best Collective Performance in 2022. In the same year, the performance was also nominated for the Croatian Theatre Arts Awards in the category Best Artistic Achievement (Contemporary Dance) – Female Role. Her second full-length choreographic work We Weren’t Here in co-authorship with Ivana Bojanić premiered in March of 2023, in which the authors performed the impossible thought of producing presence and bodies that are existing and being in several places at once. Viktoria is currently conducting the research Towards departure, I stay as a part of the Scene Ribnjak program, in which she continues to work with exploring the voice and the use of text in performance. She has been a member of the Studio of Contemporary Dance Company since 2024.
