PREMIERE: HOUSE BOLERO, choreographed by Matej Kejžar

We are very happy that we can invite you to performances of HOUSE BOLERO, a project choreographed by Matej Kejžar by which we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Studio Contemporary Dance Company.

The entire profit of the tickets will be donated to the familiy of our recently deceased colleague Mirjana Preis.

This project is supported by the funds of Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, City of Zagreb and Kultura Nova Foundation.

It all started as an ode to Dance five years ago, with a common experiment on how to learn from dance, rather than on learning how to dance or how to be oneself. The crazy, odd, queer and idiosyncratic dance styles evolved around working with (respecting) physical presence, and
focused on kinesthetic writing in the matter of space and time, in an (under) common force-field, in a dynamic territory, and in a place where a constant change of dynamics is possible.
This time, the occasion is the 60th anniversary of the Studio Contemporary Dance Company. It is an intergenerational experiment with the dancers aged 21 to 69. Working with their bodies, with various ways of physical presence, and a passion for dance they inevitably bring about new implications: the writings of dances as a force that challenges the vast field of normalization.

Cockroaches in Split and Zagreb Dance Center

On Saturday, 15th of October Cockroaches will be performed in Split, in Dom Mladih, starting at 8PM.

Not long after that, on October 28th, you can see Cockroaches again in Zagreb, in Zagreb Dance Center. The performance starts at 10 AM.

Fantastic Species in Slavonski Brod

On October, 7th the piece Fantastic Species, choreographed by Ana Kreitmeyer, will be performed in Slavonski Brod as a part of the festival Mia Čorak Slavenska Days of Dance. The performance will start at 7.30 PM in Ivana Brlić Mažuranić concert-theatre hall.

Rythm Tam on Hvar island

We are going on a trip again with Tam!!!

Ryth Tam will be performed on Hvar island, in Hvar, as a part of the Hvar Summer Festival.

The performance will begin at 11 AM in Galery Arsenal.

After the performance, there will be a short dance workshop for children.

AUDITION FOR HOUSE BOLERO

AUDITION

Studio Contemporary Dance Company is looking for a male dancer (17+) to participate in the
multigenerational project House Bolero by choreographer Matej Kejžar. The project marks 60th anniversary of the Studio Contemporary Dance Company.
Working process will take place from October 18th till November 18th, 2022 in Zagreb, Croatia.
We would like to invite all interested dancers to send a CV and a video recording of improvised dance material (maximum of 2 minutes) to: studio.suvremeni.ples@gmail.com, no later than August 19th, 2022.
Selected candidates will be informed about the further selection process.

Magic night on Ribnjak

On 18th of June Studio began the celebration of its 60th birthday with an event on Ribnjak. On this occasion members of Studio Youth performed a short piece called Murmurations, choreographed by Nika Disney, and current members of Studio performed an improvisational piece accompanied by live music by Alen and Nenad Sinkauz and based on 1966 Ana Maletić’s performance Magics.

We want to say a big thenk you to Ribnjak Stage, Pavlica Bajsić Brazzoduro and the whole team for the support and beautiful collaboration which we achieved and, in the most beautiful way, merked the end of this dance season. With this event we also began the celebration of the company’s 60th birthday which we will continue till the end of the year with various manifestations connected to the long and rich history of the company.

Also, a big thank you to Nenad and Alen Sinkauz for their ever brilliant musical support for the project Magics, to Matija Kralj for the video Summa Summarum, to Nika Disney for the inspirational collaboration with Studio Youth and to talented dancers of Studio Youth for their engagement and enthusiasm.

We are looking forward to adventures in the future!
