Last weekend Studio Contemporary Dance Company made a premiere of the new piece Firebird, chorographed by Sergiu Matis. Next shows are planned for Decmber, 1st and 2nd 2023 in Zagreb Dance Center.

How would the world look like without birds?
In this performance, the sad song of the firebird speaks about a world in flames. Dance becomes a desperate attempt of an escape from one’s own human form and transforms into a desire for metamorphosis and rebirth. In a world without future we reach for leftovers: myths and folk tales which are based on the force of nature. This search for the firebird forefronts birds which inspired folk storytelling. In times when many species are in danger of extinction, the firebird represents a hopeless gesture of nature conservation in theatre by recollecting imminent connection between human kind and environment.

After succesful screening at Lens Dans Festival in Bruxelles, we are very proud to announce that Summa Summarum, a dance video created within the frame of Studio Youth programme, choreographed by Nika Janković Disney, is selected for Video Dance Showcase of 31st Quinzena de Dança de Almada! The video will be presented on the festival in Almada which will take place from September, 21st to October, 8th 2023.

After a succesful tour on the Croatian coast, House Bolero is traveling to Ljubljana, where we will perform as a part of Spider festival, on Friday, June 16th atb 10.30 PM. We are very happy because this will be the first time, after the premiere, that almost the whole cast is together again!

At the end of the season, in collaboration with 40. Dance Week Festival, Studio Contemporary Dance Company gives two perfeormances as a gift to Zagreb audience! The performances will take place in Center for Culture Ribnjak.
The entry is free of charge, but it is neccessary to register.
You will be able to see House Bolero, choreographed by Matej Kejžar and a premiere of DISORDER, directed by Sara Stanić and performed by members of Studio Youth.

ABOUT:

What started as a research of BODY DISMORPHIC DISORDER became a research and an attempt of choreographing a disorder as such. Disorder of rythm, perception, self boundaries, borders of space, disorder of interpreting yourself, distrust of your own assesment, inability of the correct interpretation of environment. Question: in relation to what do we determine non-disturbed, correct (and beacause of that also beautiful), and maybe the most important – if a succesion of irregularities becomes a rule, are there irregularities at all or there is just rythm? In relation to what do we build perception/trust/direction?

Studio Contemporary Dance Company announces open call for choreographers interested in creating a short form dance performance for Studio Youth 2.0 programme. This year we decided to produce a project that speaks to young audiences, older asolescents (17+) and, therefore, we are interested in concepts that correspond with interests, questions and preoccupations of modern day adolescents. The subject of the performance is a matter of free choice of the choreographer.

Working process with members of the Studio Youth is planned for the period between 18.4. and 18.6. (rehearsals are happening 3 times per week in the evening (with possibility of adding extra rehearsals and working online).

The live performance is planned for the end of June.

We invite choreographers to send their CV with a concept proposition on email: studio.suvremeni.ples@gmail.com till March, 15th the latest.

It it with great pride that we announce that Studio is the winner of this year’s special award of professional dance organizations for contribution to development of contemporary dance in Croatia which marks 60 years of existence! We are extremely proud that our colleagues recognize our work, our tendencies and continuity. We thank to the numerous generations of dancers and choreographers who, with their dedication and work, contributed to long and rich Studio’s artistic legacy and brought it to the 60th anniversary of existence!

On the other side, Croatian Theatre Award for Best Choreography this year belongs to Irma Omerzo for the choreography of the performance Spectacle, produced and performed by Studio!

STUDIO YOUTH is a special program of creative education for young dancers based on contemporary dance techniques, improvisation and creative process with the support of dance pedagogues – members of Studio Contemporary Dance Company. The goal of this educational program is to prepare young dancers for the continuation of their dance education and for the work in the field of professional dance.
After a few year break, this program was reactivated two years ago. We are very happy that we can say that out of the seven members of Studio Youth 2.0, four of them continued their dance education on dance academies in Croatia and abroad, two of them started working on professional dance projects – Dora started with her own work and Ana joined Studio in House Bolero.

After this year’s successive educational and creative process, we are continuing with a thoroughly structured program in the duration of six months. The program starts in January and last till the beginning of July and it consists of:
– contemporary dance classes (technique and improvisation) with the members of Studio Contemporary Dance Company
-working individually (members of Studio Contemporary Dance Company with youth members)
-creative process with a selected choreographer and performing in professional conditions

Audition is open for young dancers (16+) and the application must include basic information about candidate (name and surname, date of birth, short CV)

The audition will be held on December,17th 2022 in Centar za kulturu Ribnjak at 1 PM

We are very proud to announce that multiple members and associates of Studio are nominated for Croatian Actor Awards and Awards of Croatian professional dance organizations.

Ana Mrak is nominated for Croatian Actor Award in the category Best performance (female role) for her performance in Fantastic Species, produced by Studio Contemporary Dance Company and choreographed by Ana Kreitmeyer.

Irma Omerzo is nominated for Croatian Actor Awawrd in the category Best Choreography for the performance Spectacle, produced by Studio.

Dalibor Šakić is nominated for Croatian Actor Award in the category Best costume design for the performance Fantastic Species, produced by Studio and choreographed by Ana Kreitmeyer.

The performers (Dina Ekštajn, Ana Mrak and Ida Jolić) of figures, figures, choreographed by Martina Tomić and produced by Studio, are nominated for Award of Croatian professional dance organizations in the category Best collective performance.
